Every beach on Lake Mille Lacs has special features that make each one a destination—whether you’re swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, or just lounging in the sand.


Father Hennepin State Park

Located on the southeast shore of Lake Mille Lacs near Wahkon, Father Hennepin State Park brings a king-sized beach with Lake Mille Lacs stretching out like an inland ocean. At Father Hennepin, you’ll enjoy a large swimming area, two boat accesses, fishing piers, and picnic sites with panoramic views. Amenities include a playground, sand volleyball court, picnic shelter, grills, a changing room, and on-site restrooms. It’s the perfect stop on your Lake Mille Lacs beach vacation! (A state park permit is required for access to the beach. Day passes are available.)

More Beaches

West Shore:

Don’t miss the sandy swimming beach on the north side of the historic stone Garrison Concourse. It’s the only stone overlook in Minnesota that projects into a lake and has been named to the National Register of Historic Places. While you’re there have your photo taken with the giant walleye!

 

Northeast Shore:
Hogsback is a sandy beach with shallow, family-friendly depths. Hogsback Beach is on Hwy. 18 on the north shore, between Malmo and Hwy. 169. No facilities.

 

South Shore:
Isle City Park


The Lakeview Park public beach in Isle has a playground, band shelter, picnic tables, charcoal grills, basketball hoop, fishing pier, and bathrooms. It’s located on the lakeside of Main Street on 5th Avenue.

 

Peterson Beach (west of Wahkon):
For a more primitive beach experience, check out Peterson Beach. There are no amenities and this hidden gem can only be accessed on foot!

Bare Ass Beach near Wahkon:
Contrary to the name of this beach, clothing IS required at Bare Ass Beach! This is a small public beach with no facilities—a quiet place to take a dip on a hot summer day.

 

Southeast Shore:

Cedar Creek Public Access:
The Cedar Creek swimming area is nice and sandy, ideal for soaking up the sun and waves. There are no facilities, but a large parking lot nearby makes this beach easily accessible.
