Lake Mille Lacs
Land & Water Acknowledgement
Lake Mille Lacs acknowledges and honors the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, the Dakota and Ojibwe people, who are the original stewards of Lake Mille Lacs and this region.
The Dakota and Ojibwe other indigenous people cared for the land and the lake for thousands of years, with archaeological evidence showing that indigenous people occupied the site as far back as 3000 bc, thousands of years before the arrival of Europeans.
The Mille Lacs Band of the Ojibwe continues to live in the region of Lake Mille Lacs. The place holds significant historical, cultural, and spiritual importance for the Indigenous community and Minnesota.
