A Paul Bunyan Point-of-View!
At Mille Lacs Kathio State Park, you can climb a 100-foot fire tower overlooking rolling forests of oak, maple, birch, and pine.
Take in the crisp, fresh air
At Mille Lacs Kathio State Park, you can view Lake Mille Lacs from above as Paul Bunyan did back in his day. Hanging out where the eagles soar is an experience you won’t soon forget.
After descending the tower stairs, hike Kathio’s 30-plus miles of trails. If you’re looking for great camping, there are 71 campsites—from rustic to modern—including sites for groups, backpacking, and even horses. Camper cabins are open all year.
Live the Lacs Life at Kathio State Park
Check out the year-round interpretive center with fun activities for kids of all ages, as well as nature programs. Do a little fishing, go for a swim, rent a canoe, kayak, or rowboat, and much more!
When you come up to Lake Mille Lacs in the winter, enjoy cross-country skiing on Kathio’s forested trails and slide on their great sledding hill. Take a break and warm up in the trail center which has flushable toilets available year-round.
When you visit Kathio, you’ll learn that the glaciers did their best work on this landscape—leaving behind amazing, natural artwork.
And it’s all waiting for you at Lake Mille Lacs! (A state park permit is required and state parks now also require reservations for camping. See the Mille Lacs Kathio website for details.)
